Write On

I recently bought the book called A Writer's Notebook by Caroline Sharp in hopes that it would inspire and encourage me to write the great American novel. Well, sadly, that has not happened yet, but I did just now pick it up and make some fantastical plans to do the exercises over my lunch hour at work.

But I'm not the only one who needs encouragement! So, I've decided to post Writing Prompts every now and then for any one interested in listening to their own writing whispers. Type in a response here or keep them in your writer's journal...whatever it takes to get you on the road to writing. This prompt is from The Writer's Block by Jason Rekulak.

Imagine what life would have been like if you had the occupation you'd wanted as a child.

Ironically, I would be a writer. Not only did I love to write stories, plays and poems, but my 6th grade teacher predicted (prophesied??) that I would earn a living writing. Alas, this hasn't happened, and who knows when I may fulfill my destiny? If I'm going to be successful, I hope it happens before I'm too old to enjoy the money!! Good luck with your novel, Ryann. I'm sure you'll beat me to the best seller list!

It probably says something about me (and many might not be surprised) that I never really knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Sure, I fantasized about writing..but I was 'encouraged' to pursue medicine or law. Even then I knew that I couldn't handle the rigors of being a medical professional (and I think I made a good choice). For awhile, I thought I would make it big as a musical engineer...once a dreamer, always a dreamer, I guess!
